VIKINGS HELPING VIKINGS COMMUNITY, SERVICE AND CELEBERATION DAY

 Ladder 95 members participated in this year VIKINGS HELPING VIKINGS COMMUNITY, SERVICE AND CELEBRATION. Ladder 95 Apparatus were on display at this years COMMUNITY, SERVICE AND CELEBRATION Day.   Also, Ladder 95 firefighters instructed a fire safety class in a smoke house that was donated by the Scranton Fire Department. .This year’s event was held at the Riverside Jr Sr High School Football Field. Memorial Day Celebration

Taylor Fire Department Ladder Company 95, wishes to thank the brave men and women of the Armed Forces, and remember those who have lost their lives defending liberty. On Memorial Day we honor the brave men and women of the Armed Forces and services personnel who died serving this country. In respects to this Ladder, Brush, Tanker and Command 95 attended the Taylor Memorial Day parade. The members passed out candy and the past and present truck company cards to the children. The parade route went from Taylor Hose Company #1 to the Taylor community center. After the parade the members visited the graves of fallen members to honor their service throughout their lives. They then attended a cook out at head quarters which was complete with a game of football to wrap the day up.

SEMI ANNUAL CHICKEN BARBECUE WAS A HUGE SUCCESS

The Taylor Fire Department Ladder 95 Semi Annual Chicken Barbecue was one of the most  successful barbecues yet . We would like to say THANK YOU to everyone one for supporting our BARBECUE. Our door sales of 100 dinners, was sold out at 2:00PM. The next Barbecue will be held in October.  We hope to see everyone one again.and some new faces, if you need advance tickets for the October Barbecue, please call 878-1466


 
   
   
LADDER 95 was dispatched to fill in at Headquarters

Ladder  95 was dispatched to fill in at Headquarters. in the city of Scranton, while the Scranton Fire Dept. was battling a multi alarm fire in at 900 block of Monroe Avenue. Engine 95 was also dispatched to fill in at Engine 9 on N. Main in the City 

At least 70 Scranton firefighters, assisted by personnel from four other communities, battled the blaze, which started in a six-unit double-home at 909-911 Monroe Ave. and quickly jumped to a single home at 907 Monroe and a double at 913-915 Monroe.

The occupants escaped safely and were all later accounted for. More than two dozen people were forced from their homes. When it was over, three buildings were consumed by flames.

Ladder 95 was placed back in Service when TRUCK 1 from the city was released from the scene

TRACTOR BLAZE ON PRINCE ST

Ladder 95, along with Rescue 95, Engine 95, Chief 95 and Chief 952 Station 95 were dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire at 915 Prince St. in the Borough.  While in route to the call the company's were notified by Lackawanna County Emergency Communication Center , that Taylor PD is on scene and  it was a fully involved tractor fire with live power lines involved. Lt Todd Flathery firefighter  Wade Kapelanovich  and Jim Luckasavage grabbed hand lines from the Rescue and Engine and held the fire in check. Units mopped up and were back in service in a half an hour.  Chief Tigue called in State Fire Marshal Russ Andrews, who  investigated the cause of the fire and ruled it as an electrical problem with the tractor.  Members from Ladder 95 on scene, Capt Joe Crosby, Lt Ray Mochan, Firefighter Natalie Bonitz and Photographers Amy and Joanne Juba


 
Busy Friday For LADDER 95

With the dry conditions the members from Ladder 95 were  busy, on April 17.  The busy day started at 13:30 PM , when Tanker 95 and Brush 95 were requested by The Bureau of Forestry to assist with a large Forest Fire at Camels Ledge in Dureya.  The crews on the Call were Firefighter Jeff Smith, Safety Officer Jim Webb, Firefighter John Harrison and Natalie Bonitz.  The crews and Truck worked in the dangerous ledges and mountains until they were cleared from the fire at 21:30. 

When the crews returned to the station another call was dispatched for a fully involved trailer fire in the rail yard on Depot St.  Tanker 95 and Brush 95 along with Rescue 95, Engine 95, Chief 952 and Chief 95 rolled on the call.   Since the fire was in the wooded area and the roads were not in good condition for other Apparatus to make it back to the fire, Chief 95 John Tigue, then requested Tanker 2 Chinchilla and Tanker 8 Newton Ransom into the scene for water supply. Lt Ray Mohan, and Firefighters Pete Osmoila and Tom Predndergast, pulled the lines from the Tanker and began putting water on the structure.  When Chinchilla's Tanker arrived on scene, firefighter Tom Buffton, Rich Zackoski , and Jim Luckasavage, pulled a 1 1/2 hand line.  When Tanker 8 Arrived they shuttled water to Tanker2 .Crews operated on the call for 3 hours and Chief 95 put all units back in service.  Safety Officer James Webb and Firefighter Jeff Smith were also on the call operating the pumps for the Tanker and Brush Truck

Ladder 95 Responds to Old Forge

Ladder 95 along with Station 93 ,engine 98 and Rescue 112 responded to a possible structure fire on 519 Maple Street in Old Forge at 23:07 hours. After arriving on scene crews discovered the smoke was coming from a wood burner and all units were put back in service by the Chief 93.


 
Station 95 reponds to Taped Alarm

Station 95 was dipatched to a Taped Fire Alarm at Kane Wharehouse #5 at 16:19 hours. Ladder 95 ,Engine 95 ,Rescue95 and 93 EMS responded along with the Chiefs. There was no fire and the Chief put all units back in service at 16:26 hours.

 On April 9 2009 at 16:55 hours Station 95 was dispatched for a Possible Structure Fire at 1145 Reynolds Ave. in Taylor.  Ladder 95 along with Engine 95, Rescue 95, Quint 95 and 93 EMS along with the Chiefs responded to the call.  Upon investigating the source of the smoke the crews found it to be coming from a computer on the second floor.  The computer was unplugged and there was no extension of the fire. Ladder 95 vented the building and Chief John Tigue put all units back in service at 17:30 hours.  

    The Firefighters of Ladder 95 would like to remind the people of Taylor that if it is a busy day or not we are just a phone call away in case of any emergency you may have.  And remember in case of an emergency dial 911!!!!


 
April 9th Turns Out to be a Busy Day for the Firefighters of Ladder 95 Crews!!!

The day started around 5:30 am when Ladder 95 along with Station 93 engine 98 and the 112 Rescue were dipatched for a car fire next to a structure on Lawrence ave in Old Forge.  When Chief 93 arived on scene he canceld all units except for Station 93 due to the fact that the car fire was not close to the bulding.

Than later in the late morning Brush 95 was requested by Chief 93A to asst. the Old Forge Fire Dept. with a brush fire on Hoover Street.  Brush 95 crews operated on scene for about a halph hour until Chief 93A Mark Taglatera put all units in service.

And again later in the afternoon Station 95 was dispatched to a Large Brush Fire on Kane Road in the rear of B C Bunt.  Tanker 95, Brush 95,  Rescue 95 and 93 EMS responded to the call along with the Chiefs. The Brush 95 made accses to the fire via a dirt road while Tanker 95 Made its Own Roads threw the woods to get to the header of the fire.  The fire consumed about one and a halph acres of wildland. 


 
Happy 90th Birthday Mr. Harold Miller!!

Happy 90th birthday to Mr. Harold Miller!!!  Mr. Miller Turned 90 years old on April 4 2009. Harold is a life time member of The Taylor Hose and Engine Co#1 and has been a member of the fire dept. since Febuary 13 1940.  Mr. Miller is still very active in the Fire Depapment,he is the tresurer of the Firemans Relief Association and is a trustee of the Fire deparpment.  The members of Ladder 95 threw Mr. Miller a small party with cake, pizza and soda for his birthday at  Aprils monthly meeting.

                                         For a reminder to all members The hose company meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm!!!


 
Busy week for Brush 95

On 3/24/09 at 14:21 hours Brush 95 was dispatched to asst. DCNR Forestry with a Wild Land fire on Snake road just past the Turnpike bridge.  Brush 95 worked with the crews from DCNR for about 3 hours to bring the fire under control. The fire burned about 3 acres of fire.  Engine 95 and Engine 7 from the city of Scranton also asst. with the wild land fire.     Lt. Raymond Mochan and Firefighters Jeff Smith and Natalie Bonitz responded to the alarm.                                                                               

    On 3/25/09 at 18:04 hours Station 95 was dispatched to a brush fire at the Forrest Home Cemetery.  Brush 95 and Engine 95 responded to the alarm.  When the brush 95 crew arrived on scene they found about a 1 acre fire at the end of the cemetery.  It took the fire crews about an hour to bring the fire under control.  Lt. Raymond Mochan Safety Officer James Webb and Firefighter Jeff Smith responded to the alarm.


 
LADDER 95 ATTEND TRAINING CLASSES AT FIRE COLLEGE WEEKEND, IN Hughesville

The Ladder 95 members left the 95 Headquarters early Saturday morning (5:00am) to attend Fire College Weekend, in Hughesville. The classes started on Saturday March 14 and ran till Sunday March 15.
 
Chief 95 John Tigue and Ladder Lt Ray Mochan attended Building Construction, the class prepares a firefighter to recognize, locate and read critical information about a building. 
 
Safety Officer Jim Webb and Firefighter Tom Prendergast attended Flashover Simulator. This class is a safe and realistic way to experience the actual condition of fire behavior before and during a flashover.
 
 Ladder Captain Joe Crosby and Firefighter Jeff Smith attended Thermal Imaging for the Fire Service, this class discussed how to search a building with a thermal imager, the students also learned how to correctly use this technology inside and out of the fire building, search and rescue situations, overhaul, ventilation, MVA’s and firefighter safety.
 
Firefighter Pete Osmolia and John Harrision Jr attended BASIC WILDLAND FIRE FIGHTER – PA 130. This course will provide the student with the knowledge and skills needed to become a wildland fire fighter. Topics include: Organization and Fire Fighter Preparedness, Fire Fighting Tools, Suppression, Securing the Line, Mop-up, Overhaul, and Safety Firefighter.
 
Firefighter Natalie Bonitz attended Aerial Apparatus Practices. This course introduced to the operational theory of aerials, aerial towers, and elevating platforms. Basic system design, safety, spotting/stabilization, operation, and elevated master stream operations are all covered.
 
The Classes were sponsored by Muncy Area Mutual Aid Association, Bucks County Community College and the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy.
